Better Beauty: Spring Favourites

If you’re like me then you’ll spend too much time hunting for the most natural, yet effective beauty products on the market. It can be difficult since a lot of products may claim to be natural, but actually contain harsh chemicals hidden amongst the ingredients. Sephora surprisingly has a ton of great options as well as small organic grocery or health stores. Check out my current favourites below.

Tata Harper Repairative (Or Clarifying) Moisturizer
Both of these are great. Actually, the entire line is –  I’ve never tried a product that I don’t like. The best part? All Tata Harper products are 100% natural and non-toxic. They are a on the more expensive side, but absolutely worth it. No matter what skin problems you face (fine lines, acne, dryness, etc.) Tata Harper is your fix. These products are available at Sephora or Nordstrom.

Derma-e Microdermabrasion Scrub
Trust me! This scrub is by far the best one out there. I’ve tried countless exfoliants and microdermabrasion scrubs from Sephora, and I’ll admit that many are good, but nothing comes close to this one by Derma-e. I actually picked up this scrub at Loblaw’s which carries most of the line. Derma-e is also all natural and contains rich antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to nourish the skin.

Tamanu Oil
This natural nut oil is derived from tamanu trees that grow in lush environments (mine’s from Vietnam) and let me tell you, this oil is a miracle. Tamanu oil has been known to treat skin conditions like eczema, acne, acne scars, stretch marks, and sun burns. I personally use it on my face when my skin is really dehydrated or I have a blemish that is causing redness on my face. Overnight, this oil will work its magic, and by the time you wake up your skin will feel like a baby’s bum, and any dark or red marks will have faded significantly.

Jurlique Calendula Cream
This is another favourite mosturizer of mine since Calendula oil (extracted from Marigold flowers) is known to calm redness and flairups.I tend to use this moisturizer in the morning since it isn’t very oily or has a strong smell. I also find it helps matify my face, so it works great under makeup.

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel
I honestly don’t think I will ever stop buying this product, I’m in love. I purchased this peel from Sephora and almost every time I go in, a sales associate will come up to me and rave about it. This product is great for signs of aging and stubborn acne caused by hormones or food. This product isn’t 100% natural (even though it still does contain natural ingredients), however after analyzing the ingredient list, there is nothing you should really be concerned about.

Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant
It’s time to put your chemical filled drug store deodorant down for good. I’ve tried probably over 50 different natural deodorants over the years and seriously not one of them worked. Lavanila is the only natural deodorant that actually lasts, and smells amazing. My favourite is the lemon vanilla or lavender vanilla scent which you can find at Sephora or Anthropology.

Quick tip: If you’re unsure about certain ingredients in a product you can look it up on the EWG Skin Deep database
